The Telangana government has modified its Rabi cultivation strategy in response to the looming threat of El Nino. To encourage farmers to shift towards dryland and horticultural crops, the government will implement a seed subsidy plan totaling Rs 520 crore. Officials from the agriculture department stated that this initiative will support crop diversification. The primary objective of this scheme is to motivate farmers in areas with limited water availability to opt for alternative crops.
This seed subsidy will enable farmers to cultivate crops that require less water. The government anticipates that this will reduce the burden on the state's water resources while simultaneously providing farmers with better income opportunities. Through this new strategy, the Telangana government aims to increase crop diversity during the Rabi season and thereby mitigate the impacts of climate change.
