The US government has announced the suspension of several Indian IT companies from a program that allows skilled foreign employees to obtain permanent residency. This move is expected to impact Indian tech giants significantly.
US Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling stated that the Permanent Labor Certificate Program licenses for some of the world's largest IT outsourcing companies, including Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini, are being revoked.
The Permanent Labor Certificate Program is also known as PERM (Program Electronic Review Management) in the United States. This program facilitates permanent residency for skilled foreign workers in the US.
According to US Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling, these IT companies have maintained the same approach for decades. The BBC reported that these actions are likely to cause significant delays in green card issuance.
Experts suggest that Indians have largely benefited from the H-1B visa. This suspension decision raises concerns for Indian IT professionals, especially those from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana aspiring to move to the US.
The anticipated delays in green card processing due to these actions will affect the plans of many IT professionals from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who are looking to settle in the United States.
