The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a new rule that would require schools to pay a $70,000 fee for an international student's initial Optional Practical Training (OPT) program participation.
According to Telangana Today, this sweeping change could sharply increase the cost of obtaining post-study work experience in the United States for international students.
The proposed rule would also impose a $30,000 fee for any subsequent OPT participation, DHS said on Wednesday, as reported by Telangana Today.
These fees are currently proposed and are not yet in effect. Telangana Today states that DHS will accept public comments from October 9 before considering a final rule.
This proposal is significant for readers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as it could place a substantial financial burden on the thousands of students from these states who aspire to pursue higher education and gain work experience in the United States.
