Errors have surfaced in the voter lists across several constituencies in Telangana, including Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Malkajgiri, and Chandrayangutta. The Times of India reported that living voters have been marked as deceased and their votes deleted.
Following the discovery of these errors, on-ground election officials have instructed affected voters to fill Form 6, which is intended for registering as a new voter. This was suggested instead of restoring their names to the existing electoral rolls.
The Times of India stated that a 22-year-old man, Mohd Aqeel Ahmed, a resident of Falaknuma, is alive but has been shown as dead and his vote deleted. Syed Jalaluddin Zafar of Youth Welfare Telangana questioned how such errors could have occurred.
This specific case was confirmed by Atiya Sultana, the booth-level officer for Part No. 221, according to The Times of India. Zafar questioned how these errors could have happened while the Election Commission was preparing the draft electoral rolls.
Such inaccuracies in the voter lists impact the voting rights of citizens in Telangana. They raise questions about the transparency and reliability of the electoral process, which is crucial for democracy.
