YS Jagan has stated that reforms are necessary in the appointment process of Election Commissioners. He suggested that the current system, where ruling parties select the Election Commissioner, should be altered.
Jagan proposed that the Chief Election Commissioner should be chosen jointly by the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
He emphasized that for the system to gain more transparency and credibility, appointments must adhere to a defined procedure.
YS Jagan also clarified that his past agreement to a Chief Election Commissioner proposal was a mistake.
