The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has announced Anam Vijaykumar Reddy as its candidate for the Nellore Mayor post. The party stated it would overcome what it termed the coalition government's 'deceptive tactics' and fight the upcoming local body elections.
According to Asianet Newsable, speaking to reporters in Tadepalli on Wednesday, former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy and other party leaders said that Vijaykumar Reddy's candidature had been finalised as the Mayor seat was generally believed to fall under the open category.
They further stated that the decision was taken as per the directions of YSRCP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Kakani Govardhan Reddy alleged that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had returned to his 'old tricks' ahead of the local body elections. He accused the government of targeting YSRCP leaders and cadres by allegedly foisting false cases against them and opening rowdy sheets to prevent them from contesting the elections.
As reported by Asianet Newsable, YSRCP leaders vowed to fight this injustice 'tooth and nail'.
These developments are significant for voters in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as the strategies and accusations made by political parties in local body elections can influence the regional political landscape.
