The YSR Congress Party has approached the Supreme Court, alleging violence and irregularities during the nomination process for 22 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh. The party challenged an October 18 order from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which declined to extend the nomination deadline.

MLC and State General Secretary Lella Appi Reddy, accompanied by former MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu and Narayana Murthy, presented evidence to the State Election Commissioner. They informed the Commissioner about incidents of nomination paper destruction and intimidation of candidates.

Speaking to reporters, Appi Reddy alleged that Telugu Desam Party workers tore up opposition nomination papers out of fear of defeat. He claimed that in some areas, police supported these actions and seized papers.

Appi Reddy stated that YSRCP candidates were able to file nominations in only 321 of the 809 wards and divisions across the 22 local bodies. He added that 488 wards were left without nominations, and eight chairperson nominations were also obstructed.

He demanded that the same remedy applied in Mydukur, where elections were postponed after 19 nomination papers were destroyed, be implemented here. Appi Reddy also highlighted ongoing violence during the scrutiny process, citing attacks on MPs Midhun Reddy, Gurumoorthy, and Avinash Reddy.
