A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking the disclosure of criminal case details against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) candidates within 24 hours. YSRCP MLC Lella Appi Reddy filed this petition.

In the petition, Appi Reddy argued that prospective candidates lack clarity on any criminal cases registered against them and the police stations where these cases are pending. He contended that this lack of information creates difficulties for candidates.

The petition seeks directions to Station House Officers (SHOs) to furnish this information within 24 hours of an application being submitted. The YSRCP believes this will provide transparency for candidates.

The High Court has permitted this lunch-motion petition to be heard. The matter is expected to come up for hearing shortly.

The YSRCP has also written to the State Election Commission (SEC), seeking instructions to police officials across Andhra Pradesh to provide candidates with details of cases registered against or pending against them.

In his letter, Appi Reddy alleged that the coalition government was using the police to harass prospective YSRCP candidates and obstruct their participation in the elections. The party expressed concern that these actions undermine the democratic process.
