Differences in the Peddapalli Congress are out in the open again. Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamshi Krishna has written to IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu.

What the MP raised

  • He asked why Sridhar Babu, Peddapalli MLA Vijayaramana Rao and Ramagundam MLA Makkan Singh Raj Thakur skipped the Congress 'vote chori' protest at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi, on November 1.
  • The Kaka Venkataswamy Charitable Trust distributed school bags at the Koyyur government school in Manthani constituency. He said a tribal woman public representative and some workers who attended were suspended the next day without show-cause notices.
  • He said party discipline must apply equally to everyone, from minister to ward member, and asked whether the two MLAs would also be suspended.

In the letter, the MP said he had come to know that the minister attended a spiritual event in Manthani with Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji that cost more than ₹3 crore. That figure has not been verified.

The other side

Manthani Congress leaders called the MP's remarks cheap and demanded he withdraw them. They said he tours Manthani without informing local leaders and that they would complain to Rahul Gandhi. Party sources say the bag event was held without informing the minister, who is the local MLA, or the village sarpanch. Sridhar Babu, the two MLAs and the PCC have not responded.
