The drought numbers
The state has declared 365 mandals in 31 districts drought-hit for the 2026 Vanakalam season: 111 severe and 254 moderate. Rainfall from June 1 to September 30 was 615.5 mm against a normal of 740.6 mm, a 17% shortfall. Paddy area fell 18%, from 69.19 lakh acres to 57 lakh acres.
Where the plea stands
The Assembly sought ₹20,000 crore in special aid on September 18; the demand was later raised to ₹30,000 crore. The drought report went to the Centre on October 28. The state also wants its borrowing limit raised from 3% to 3.5% of GSDP. Telangana Today and Siasat report that the CM and more than half his Cabinet spent three days in Delhi without meeting the PM, the Union Home Minister or the ministers concerned. No central team has visited Telangana yet; a central team toured drought-hit areas of Andhra Pradesh, which declared 388 mandals, on November 2 and 3. No response from the Centre or the BJP is reported in these accounts.
